As a teacher my goal is to help kids appreciate learning while creating a safe environment for them. I also want to give the students someone for them to feel comfortable going to and help them learn why academics are important in life. My goal for the students is to help them learn to love learning and help them learn to encourage one another and build last relationships as well as find joy in every moment. I believe in collaborative learning where the students feel comfortable working together and learning from one another. Group work is important, but it should be based upon randomization to help avoid cliques and create a classroom bond. I also believe that students should be taught with a growth mindset and with a curious mindset to encourage them to learn on their own. Direct Instruction is important, but it should be made in a way that engages the students where they are involved and not just listening. I believe that students can be assessed in other ways outside of tests. I want to implement assessing my students in projects, homework, classwork, and tests as well. But I want to focus as much on grading on projects, experiments, and class work because I believe that students can get more or just as much out of these as they would for a test. I will also be constantly reflecting upon the performance of students and their engagement to see what may need to elaborate more on or if I need to find a different way to teach it to make it more enjoyable. To improve myself I will also continue looking for webinars, podcasts, and talking to other fellow teachers to continue improving how I teach and find more ways to allow me to teach my students in a way where they succeed. I would know if I have taught my students effectively if they are talking about it on their own, understanding it, and making their own connections or helping others.
Teaching is important to me because I want the future generation to succeed and get a great academic experience. I will be collaborating with other teachers by talking and working with them to build lessons that overlap with other or make sure the students are learning what they should be learning. I believe that understanding successful learning comes from collaboration, a student driven classroom, and the environment of the classroom itself. It goes beyond just teaching the students and includes creating a successful atmosphere. I will maintain a positive relationship with my students and colleagues by checking in with all of them and showing kindness to all of them. As well as being supportive and working with everyone I come across.
